The National Cathedral

Yesterday EB and I had our theological reflection with Alida DeCoster at the Washington National Cathedral. The building is amazing, the 6th largest cathedral in the world and it was finished in 1990 which really suprised me. the ceiling is 10 stories high and the bell tower goes up until 20 stories. the building tells two stories: the religious story of christ and also the story of the United States. the stained glass windows were absolutely breathtaking and because it was a winter sunny day, the colorful light reflections were incredible. while taking the tour we discovered kneelers dedicated to clara barton and william ellery channing. the stained glass windows have depictions of important historical events. the childrens chapel was super cute, very detailed and child sized. their kneelers all had embroidered baby animals and the chairs were tiny.
we attended the 12:00 service which was interesting but it lacked the passion and enthusiasm that i like during worship. all we did was read prayers from a book which seemed very robotic to me but i know it's an important worship style for many.
