Passover with Peace and Justice

i had a powerful experience of observing passover this year with my housemates as we held a seder centered around issues of peace and justice. it amazes me that this age old tradition can take on so many different meanings based on the chosen hagaddah and the composition of the participants while adhereing to the ideas and structure of the traditional seder.
i was very inspired by our small community sharing the food and stories typical of a passover seder while infusing it with our own stories of oppression, resistance and liberation.
at one point we all told an act of resistance that we had participated in in the past year and poured some of our wine into into a communal bowl until it was overflowing. the symbolism of this act was very powerful.
tomorrow night we're having an inter-faith seder at eb's house. it was neat to compile the readings that are inclusive of many faith traditions, lesbians, the cuurent genocide in darfur and other important political and spiritual events. we also dyed eggs on saturday that will be used on the seder plate. one of out jewish friends commented "it might be the first time Easter eggs are used in a Passover Seder!"
i was talking with a good friend last night who is also half jewish and we were comparing our seder stories and experiences as "non-jews". we both decided that they experience had made us more inquisitive about judaism and the rich traditions and rituals involved. i told her i wanted to be jewish and she said "let's do it, we're already half-way there!" don't worry, i won't be giving up this job anytime soon...
